Professional organizations exist to promote the interests and issue of their members' profession. They serve as an excellent source for professional development information and a gateway to all manner of relevant resources for practitioners. As well as the national primary organization, you will often be able to find either a state level chapter of that organziation or a state level organization.

American Association of School Librarians
A division of the American Library Association (ALA) devoted to all aspects of school librarianship. Other divisions of ALA of particular interest for school librarians include: the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) and the Association Library Service to Children (ALSC).

Oregon Association of School Librarians
The state level professional association.
