Finding articles on your topic:

There is no one tool that lists all the contents of the Oregonian from its first publication date. Many attempts have been made to index it, resulting in multiple tools.

Here they are:

Oregon Index (1985-1994) Accessible from the Library’s database page – switch to the Oregon Index Backfile.

Library Association of Portland Newspaper Index (1980-1984) Indexes more than just the Oregonian. This is a microfiche index and the microfiche sheets are located in a binder in the SW corner of the 2nd floor, on top of the card file.

Library Association of Portland Newspaper Index (1900-1979) These microfiche sheets are located in a box on top of the card file, in the SW corner of the 2nd floor.
