Find Magazine & Journal Articles

To find articles in journals, magazines, or newspapers, you will need to use one of the Library's print indexes or article databases. An index or article database will allow you to look for articles by title, by author, or by a few keywords that describe your topic.

EBSCOhost Academic Search Premiere
A multidisciplinary database that includes full-text access to many of the journal articles it contains. EBSCOhost Academic Search Elite has a broad scope and is an excellent starting source for finding journal articles.

LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe
LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe provides a variety of full text sources including: regional, national, and international newspapers; magazines; wire services and many other sources.

Sociological Abstracts
This database covers the academic and professional literature of sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. The database draws information from an international selection of over 2,600 journals and other serial publications, plus conference papers, books, and dissertations. Citations to journal articles published after 1974 include abstracts. Coverage: 1963 to the present.

Locating Biographical Information

The library has a number of general biographical dictionaries and encyclopedias in the 2nd floor reference area, located under the call number CT. Two useful resources are The Encyclopedia of World Biography CT103 .E56 and The Dictionary of World Biography --The 19th Century CT104 .D54 1998 Vol 5-6. Additional biographical resources can be found within specific subject areas. For example, biographies of English literary figures can be found in the PR section; biographies of scientists in the Q section, etc.

To find books about your person, do a subject search for that person's name (last name first) in the Library Catalog -- Vikat.

Wilson Biographies Plus
This online resource ontains contains the full text of the articles from more than 100 volumes of biographical reference books published by H. W. Wilson, including all the articles from all volumes of Current Biography, the World Author Series, Nobel Prize Winners, World Artists, World Film Directors, American Reformers, and numerous biographical books on musicians and composers from throughout history. The biographies are searchable by name, profession, title, place of origin, gender, race/ethnicity, titles of works, date of birth, date of death, keyword, and presence of images.
