AERONAUTICAL CHARTS |
|
Aeronautical charts are shelved either in the map collection, or in government documents. Those in the map collection are filed by chart number in file cabinet-10. A few unfolded charts (e.g. North Pacific Route) are filed in map case-14, drawer 13. Only the most current charts are kept, and none of the charts are updated re. Notices to Airmen. INDEXES There are two sets of indexes to aeronautical charts, providing essentially the same information: (1) index charts and (2) catalogs. The following standard index charts are filed in map case-14, drawer 13:
The following catalogs/indexes for aeronautical charts are filed in a red plastic pamphlet box labeled Aeronautical Charts behind the reference desk on the 5th floor:
The following three series are filed in the map collection. :
Designed for high speed at medium altitudes. In absence of Tactical Pilotage Charts (TPC), satisfies DoD requirements for enroute visual and radar navigation at low altitudes. For map index see pages 35A and 35B, Aeronautical
Charts and Publications, Defense Mapping Agency, 3rd.
ed. (1996-1998) Suitable for long-range, high altitude, high speed navigation. Shows large cities, roads, railroads, and drainage. Relief shown by contours, spot elevations and gradient tints. For index map see pages 41A and 41B, Aeronautical Charts and Publications,
Defense Mapping Agency, 3rd. ed. (1996-1998) Designed for long-range, high altitude, high speed.
