FLOOD INSURANCE MAPS

Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) are published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), under its National Flood Insurance Program. These black and white folded maps show flood plain boundaries, flood zones (defined by 100-year and 500-year flood boundaries), base flood elevations, special flood hazard areas, corporate limits, cultural features, etc.
Portland State's collection includes maps for the Metro Area (i.e. the counties of:
Multnomah
Clackamas
Washington
Yamhill
Clark (Wash.)

Each corporated area within a county has its own index map (e.g. Portland, Beaverton, etc.). And there is a separate index for the unincorporated areas of each county. The maps are filed by county and community-panel number (e.g. 4219183 0020 D) in green pamphlet boxes in the work room on the 4th floor. Indexes are filed at the head of each series (e.g. City of Portland Map Index, Washington County (Unincorporated areas) Map Index, etc.).
