Atlas of the United States
Updates the print version of the National Atlas, which
was published in 1970. According to the site, "this edition promotes
greater national geographic awareness. It delivers easy to use, map-like
views of America's natural and sociocultural landscapes." "Draw"
your own maps by selecting a region and data of interest.
CIA
World Factbook
The World Factbook is produced annually by the
Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and contains useful, concise economic
and political information about the countries of the world.

USGS
Global Land Information System
The Global Land Information System (GLIS) is an
interactive computer system developed by the U.S. Geological Survey
(USGS) for scientists seeking sources of information about the Earth's

GAZETTEERS
Geographic
Names Information System (GNIS)
Contains information about almost 2 million physical
and cultural geographic features in the United States. The Federally
recognized name of each feature described in the data base is identified,
and references are made to a feature's location by State, county, and
geographic coordinates. The GNIS is our Nation's official repository
of domestic geographic names information.
GEOnet
Names Server (GNS)
The GEOnet Names Server (GNS) provides access to the
National Imagery and Mapping Agency's (NIMA) database of foreign
geographic feature names. Information in this database has been used
to prepare and publish the series of foreign country gazetteers approved
by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (US BGN)
