Coretta Scott King Award
This award was established in 1969 to commemorate the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and to honor Mrs. Coretta Scott King for her courage and determination in continuing the work for peace and world brotherhood. The award recognizes African-American authors for their outstanding contributions to children's literature that promotes a better understanding and appreciation of the culture and contribution of all peoples to realize the American Dream. Originally only an award for authors, an illustrator award was established in 1979.
The following list includes the award winners, and their respective call numbers in the Millar Library. The Children’s Literature Award Winners are all shelved together at the beginning of the PZ call number range in the southeast corner of the 5th floor. Titles without call numbers are not currently owned by the Millar Library. Ask for help at the reference desk on the 2nd floor if you need assistance with obtaining a copy from another library.
